The Scarecrow's Wedding!

Date: 20th Oct 2015 @ 9:38pm

We have been celebrating Harvest this week!

We talked about what harvesting means and how different foods are harvested; Liam and Joe gave us a fantastic explanation of how a combine harvester works! We have learnt that Harvest is a Christian festival and that Christians say thank you to God for good crops and for the farmers to grow and take care of the crops. We also discussed that some people don't have enough food to eat and how we were very kind to bring food in from home to donate to the Foodbank to share with other people. Reception learnt a song about a big, red combine harvester that we sang to the rest of the school during the Harvest assembly. We also got to share the Harvest loaf that was kindly baked by Alfie's Grandad!

As part of our learning about Harvest we have been reading the story 'The Scarecrow's Wedding'. In the story, Betty and Harry the scarecrows make a list of the things they need for their wedding; we have been helping them collect items from their list! We have been making wedding dresses made of feathers and pasta necklaces for Betty to wear.

We are going to hold a party on Thursday to celebrate the scarecrow's wedding; stay tuned for photos!
